Mike Jones is Professor of Plant Sciences and Director of the WA State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) at Murdoch University, which is the major centre for agricultural biotechnology in Westen Australia.

Professional History
Professor Jones has a degree in Biochemistry and PhD in Plant Biochemistry from Cambridge University, UK. His expertise is in plant biotechnology and its application to agriculture, including molecular diagnostics, marker-assisted breeding, gene mapping and molecular plant pathology. Mike is Professor of Plant Sciences and Director of the WA State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre (SABC) at Murdoch University, which is the major centre for agricultural biotechnology in Western Australia. The SABC acts as a ‘Research Hotel’ and a commercial incubator. Professor Jones is also a member of the Australian Biotechnology Advisory Council (ABAC), which provides independent advice to the five Australian federal government ministers responsible for national biotechnology policy.
Research Interests
Prefessor Jones` research interests include plant biotechnology and its application to agriculture, plant molecular biology, GM plants/crops, diagnostics and quality assurance, marker-assisted breeding, commercialisation of biotech R&D, plant virology, and plant nematology.
